I first got involved with Lucky Dog Animal Rescue last year, starting out as a volunteer driver and dog handler at adoption events. What began as a way to spend my free time quickly became something much more meaningful.

I started volunteering with Lucky Dog last March when my best friend/neighbor Abby became a dog foster.

I’ve always loved dogs, and I was fortunate enough to grow up with one. We adopted one of the first Lucky Dogs in 2009, and he was with me from elementary school through college.

I first learned of Lucky Dog in July 2025. I was a cat mom with two cats, but was really considering adopting a dog. During the process, I learned of Lucky Dog Animal Rescue and an event they were having.

“If you look into their eyes, be prepared to take them home.” I’ve used that line a few times with prospective adopters, and, you know what?

16 years ago Lucky Dog paired me with my soulmate dog. We ended up traveling the country and the world together for work. Life brought both amazing times and challenges.

This past October, I had the opportunity to join Lucky Dog Animal Rescue on a trip to Puerto Rico, alongside 7 incredible volunteers from all around the world.

Every dog and cat has their unique story that makes them special. Everyone that has a rescue is desperate to know that story, where they came from, who loved them, how many were in their litter, how long were they looking for their forever home.

My journey into volunteering and rescue started long before I realized it. In 2012, I attended an adoption event and instantly fell in love with a shy hound named Ophelia. She could barely look anyone in the eye, but I knew she was mine.
