Finding Rescue With My Best Friend
I started volunteering with Lucky Dog last March when my best friend/neighbor Abby became a dog foster.
We began together as handlers advocating for her fosters, and then I handled many dogs on my own before being inspired to become a customer service volunteer and a foster advisor.
Then last June, I started training to become an adoption coordinator, and I have held that role ever since! I have helped place over 40 dogs and helped foster 13 with Abby!
In addition to my role as an adoption coordinator for dogs, I am a kitten foster, having adopted out 23 kittens.
I absolutely love volunteering with Lucky Dog, especially when I get to interact with the dogs and cats because it is such a great distraction from daily life. I’ve also met some great people along the way who have become such good friends (special shoutout to the “blue hat crew” Jess, Kara, Kasondra, and Keith).
Getting dogs and cats adopted is so rewarding, and seeing your own fosters find their forever homes is even more so. I have a special place in my heart for all of my fosters, even if they are technically staying with Abby down the hall.
If you are thinking of getting involved, whether that be handling, fostering, or volunteering in a different role, I would recommend talking to someone who’s done it before (you can always stop by an event and say hello)! Not every role is for everyone, but there is certainly something for every type of person at Lucky Dog.
