Community Support Powers Lifesaving Milestone for the Pets of the Pee Dee Region

Florence, S.C., September 12, 2025 – Lucky Dog Animal Rescue is thrilled to announce the completion of its 5,000th spay/neuter surgery for dogs and cats in South Carolina’s Pee Dee Region. This incredible milestone – made possible by the generosity of donors, the dedication of volunteers, and the support of community partners – represents thousands of lives changed, suffering prevented, and futures saved.

From pets in overcrowded shelters to beloved family companions, each of the 5,000 animals who received surgery is part of a larger story: a healthier, safer community for people and pets alike.

Among the most recent beneficiaries are Delaney and Darcy, two six-month-old puppies preparing for their forever homes. Thanks to Lucky Dog’s spay/neuter program, they will be able to start the next chapter of their lives healthy, happy and ready for adoption. Their journey is just one example of how donor support directly transforms lives – ensuring puppies like Delaney and Darcy never contribute to the cycle of overpopulation and instead get the second chance they deserve.

“Reaching 5,000 surgeries is not just a number – it’s a testament to what we can achieve together,” said Mirah Horowitz, CEO & Founder at Lucky Dog Animal Rescue. “Every single donor, volunteer, and supporter played a part in this moment. Because of you, fewer puppies and kittens will be born into uncertain futures, and more animals will have the chance to thrive in loving homes.”

This accomplishment underscores Lucky Dog’s commitment to tackling the root causes of pet overpopulation and reflects the lifesaving impact that supporters have on both shelter animals and personal pets owned by families across the Pee Dee Region.

Looking Ahead

Lucky Dog Animal Rescue is determined to build on this momentum. With continued community support, the organization will keep offering spay/neuter services that prevent unwanted litters, reduce shelter crowding, and improve the life and wellbeing of pets.  To donate to support these efforts, please visit luckydoganimalrescue.org/donate.
