On Sunday, 27 October 2024, Lucky Dog Animal Rescue made a powerful showing at this year’s Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) and MCM 10K, with ten dedicated runners raising an impressive $8,496.20 to save animals in need. Thanks to their commitment and the support of 157 generous donors, Lucky Dog is even better equipped to provide safe homes, medical care, and second chances to countless dogs and cats.

Running with Purpose: The Lucky Dog Team

Led by longtime volunteer and Lucky Dog Captain Joan Mayer, the Lucky Dog team was comprised of seasoned runners and first-timers, all of whom wanted to support Lucky Dog with their valiant efforts on race day. Although an injury sustained before the race prevented her from running, Joan stayed actively involved, keeping the team organized and motivated throughout the event. Each Lucky Dog running team member came to the race not just to push their physical limits but to make a life-saving difference for animals awaiting homes. Representing a range of running experiences, half of these animal lovers took on the full 26.2-mile marathon, and the other half ran the 10K, with every mile symbolizing hope for rescued pets.

A Community of Support

Through an incredible team effort, nearly $8,500 was raised to support Lucky Dog! Friends, family, and dedicated supporters rallied behind our runners, helping each reach their fundraising goals. The top fundraiser contributed an impressive $2,075, with three others raising over $1,000 each—a powerful testament to their commitment and our community's belief in Lucky Dog's mission. Every contribution, from $5 to much larger amounts, made a difference, underscoring that every dollar counts in the rescue of animals. Each donation supports Lucky Dog's life-saving work, providing animals with food, shelter, medical care, adoption services, and transportation.
