When the Unthinkable Happens “Petco Love Lost” Database Uses Breakthrough Photo-Matching Technology to Find Missing Dogs and Cats in Washington, DC Metro Area

Washington, DC (March 24, 2026) – Lucky Dog Animal Rescue is proudly joining forces with Petco Love, a national nonprofit organization leading change for pets, and animal welfare organizations across the country, on a shared mission to help reunite lost pets with their families should they ever go missing, through Petco Love Lost. Sadly, according to industry statistics, one in every three pets will go missing in their lifetime.

Petco Love Lost is a free, easy-to-use lost-and-found tool that unifies lost and found pet listings from across the country – including posts from thousands of animal welfare organizations – into one searchable database. The platform uses AI photo-matching technology to help reunite pets by comparing images of lost pets with those of found pets. Accessible to both animal welfare organizations and the general public, Petco Love Lost allows anyone who has lost or found a pet to upload a photo and instantly search for possible matches in nearby shelters or in the community. Features include a scrollable list of pets currently in Lucky Dog Animal Rescue’s care and an interactive map that displays l;ost and found reports, shelter pets, and community posts from Neighbors and Nextdoor – all conveniently viewable on luckydoganimalrescue.org’s website.
