Lucky Dog Animal Rescue Partners with Greater Good Charities to Lend a Hand to Pets Impacted by Hurricane Helene
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
In the past seven days, Lucky Dog has provided temporary housing for 184 dogs and cats evacuated from areas in Florida and Tennessee impacted by Hurricane Helene
FLORENCE, SC (Oct. 9, 2024) — On September 27th, Hurricane Helene made landfall in the U.S., battering the east coast and leaving a trail of disaster across five states. As Florida braces for another record-breaking Hurricane in the next 24 hours, nine particularly Lucky Dogs are safe with Lucky Dog Animal Rescue rather than fleeing from evacuation zones. These nine are just a small part of the 184 animals Lucky Dog has saved in the past week with the help of partners like Greater Good Charities.
Partnering with Florida Urgent Rescue last week, Lucky Dog brought 33 dogs and 5 cats to their Rescue Campus in South Carolina. This week, Lucky Dog is partnering with Greater Good Charities to evacuate 36 dogs and 110 cats from the Washington County Johnson City Animal Shelter in Johnson City, TN, which suffered significant flooding during Hurricane Helene. By moving these pets – who were in the shelter prior to the storm – out of the area, Lucky Dog enables local shelters to focus on pets immediately displaced by the storm.
These Lucky Dogs and Cats will spend the week at our state-of-the-art Stop Over Station on our South Carolina Campus where they can relax and decompress before flying to rescue and shelter partners in Wisconsin and Illinois on Saturday. “Our hearts go out to all the people and pets who have lost so much in the wake of Hurricane Helene, as well as those now bracing for the impact of Milton,” said Mirah Horowitz, Founder and CEO of Lucky Dog Animal Rescue. “We are honored to partner with other caring organizations like Greater Good Charities to bring 36 dogs and 110 cats from the Washington County Johnson City Animal Shelter, located in Eastern Tennessee. These animals, all of whom were in the shelter before the storm hit, will be joining 20 dogs rescued from hurricane impacted areas of Florida on an airlift to Wisconsin and Illinois this coming Saturday. This movement of animals is essential so that shelters in areas impacted by storms can focus on helping those newly displaced by the hurricanes.”
