Lucky Dog Animal Rescue to Open New Cat Building at Florence Rescue Campus
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Scheduled for June 12, 2026
Florence, S.C. (June 10, 2026) – Lucky Dog Animal Rescue (LDAR) will celebrate a major milestone with the grand opening of its new cat building at the Lucky Dog Rescue Campus in Florence, South Carolina. A ribbon cutting ceremony will take place on Friday, June 12 at 12:00 PM at the organization’s campus located at 2502 N Williston Rd.
“Our new cat building is a huge step forward for Lucky Dog and the community we serve,” said Mirah Horowitz, CEO of Lucky Dog Animal Rescue. “It will allow us to expand our capacity to rescue cats and kittens from local shelters, to provide lifesaving care for the most vulnerable neonatal kittens, and to prepare them for transport to loving homes.”
"The opening of Lucky Dog's dedicated cat building is an incredibly exciting moment for Florence County," said James Lawrence "Chipper" Smith, ll, Florence City Councilman for District 2. "The investment in lifesaving that Lucky Dog has made here means thousands of animals will get a second chance. Not just those that are lucky enough to spend time on the Rescue Campus before heading to their forever homes but also those who will have space to enter our shelters because kennels space opens up. We have all seen how full our local shelters have been - and continue to be. Without Lucky Dog's help, those shelters would be forced to make decisions no one wants to have to make."
Since opening its 23-acre Rescue Campus in 2023, Lucky Dog has made a significant impact on the Florence pet population and surrounding communities, providing access to low cost spay/neuter surgeries, free vaccine and microchip clinics, and partnering with local shelters to relieve pressure caused by overcrowding and lack of resources.. The opening of a new cat building represents a transformative expansion of Lucky Dog’s lifesaving work. For the first time, the organization will have a dedicated space to house more than 150 cats. The facility includes a mom-and-kitten nursery, veterinary treatment space, a cattery, and a catio, outfitted by Cat Topia, — allowing for specialized care for vulnerable cats and kittens.
Importantly, the new space will also enable Lucky Dog to prepare more cats for transport to the Washington, DC area, where demand for adoptable pets remains high. By increasing the number of cats who are healthy, socialized, and ready for adoption, the organization can connect more animals from South Carolina with loving forever families, while continuing to relieve pressure on local shelters.
Mayor Barnes and other community leaders will be in attendance to celebrate the grand opening. Community members, partners, and supporters are invited to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony and tour the new facility.
