Florence, SC (February 24th, 2026) — Lucky Dog Animal Rescue is proud to share an incredible milestone: they have spayed & neutered 6,300 dogs and cats since the 2023 opening of their South Carolina Rescue Campus in Florence. This announcement coincides with the arrival of World Spay Day on February 24, 2026, a day bringing attention to spaying or neutering companion animals as a proven means of lifesaving by reducing overpopulation and eliminating the need for euthanasia. The lifesaving impact of Lucky Dog Animal Rescue’s spay and neuter service is immense.

World Spay Day is an international awareness campaign focused on reducing pet overpopulation through accessible sterilization services. Nationally, millions of dogs and cats enter shelters each year with unplanned litters remaining a leading contributor to overcrowding. Animal welfare organizations emphasize that spay and neuter programs are among the most effective tools for decreasing euthanasia rates, improving animal health, and supporting stable pet ownership.

“Every surgery represents future lives saved and fewer animals entering already overwhelmed shelters,” said Mirah Horowitz, CEO and Founder of Lucky Dog Animal Rescue. “World Spay Day gives us an opportunity to celebrate the incredible dedication of our veterinary team while reinforcing how critical affordable spay and neuter access is for our community.”

Spay and neuter procedures not only prevent unwanted litters but also provide significant health and behavioral benefits, including reduced risk of certain cancers, decreased roaming, and improved overall longevity.

Lucky Dog Animal Rescue’s South Carolina Rescue Campus provides spay and neuter services for animals in its care, as well as community pets and local shelters at low cost prices.

As the organization continues to expand lifesaving services, it encourages pet owners to speak with their veterinarian about spay and neuter and to support local programs working to address pet overpopulation. Information on these services can be found on the organization’s website: luckydoganimalrescue.org.
