Fueling My Passion for Dogs With Lucky Dog Animal Rescue

It all started in Indiana. I had a dog and a cat growing up, and I knew from a young age that I wanted to continue learning about dogs. I asked for dog breed and dog training books for Christmas as a 10-year-old, and that love for dogs has never waned. As I got older, I got a lot busier and wasn't able to participate as much in rescue, but I never stopped thinking about dogs.

Then I moved to the DMV area in 2023 right out of college for a job opportunity. As exciting as moving to a city on the East Coast can be, I was also (obviously) out of my element. I started from square one - making new friends, finding new hobbies, etc. After about a year of living in Alexandria, I started to feel like I had more time to devote to dogs and other furry friends. I would spend my time daydreaming about getting a dog and watching YouTube videos of people bringing their rescue pups home.

I found Lucky Dog Animal Rescue online, and knew that I had to get involved. After a whirlwind year of moving, new changes, and LOTS of highs and lows, I was extremely excited to be volunteering with people and animals who were just as happy to see me as I was to see them. I have been a handler at Sunday events since July 2024, and I've just started my volunteer Adoption Coordinator training this year to help place our adoptable Lucky Dogs with wonderful forever families! I also feel like a pretty experienced dog chauffeur at this point. The best thing about volunteering is the joy that comes with meeting new people and new pets, the elation at finding those pets' new homes, and the pride in knowing that you've made a difference in someone's life. And the puppy kisses are an amazing added bonus! I highly recommend volunteering with Lucky Dog Animal Rescue and look forward to seeing you at a future event.
