Every Adoption is A Celebration
If you had told me a few years ago that I’d spend so much of my free time helping dogs find their forever families, I might have smiled and thought it sounded wonderful. But, I wouldn’t have imagined it becoming such a big part of my life.
I’ve always been an animal lover. Growing up with cats, I formed a deep bond with them from an early age, and they were the hardest thing to say goodbye to when I left for college. In college, my love for rescue grew even more when I tagged along with my roommate on her search for the perfect dog. We visited shelter after shelter, and I’ll never forget the moment she adopted her dog, Chance. The joy on her face (and his wiggly tail!) made me realize two things: someday I’d have a dog of my own, and I wanted to be part of helping other people experience that same happiness.
When my husband and I adopted our first dog, Penny, it became even clearer. As excited as I was to bring her home, I couldn’t stop thinking about all the other dogs we had met ... the ones still waiting in kennels for their happily ever after. I started returning to the shelter on my own, taking dogs out for walks, giving them affection, and making sure they got a little playtime and attention. It was rewarding, but I still felt called to do more. I wanted to be part of the journey of seeing them move from a kennel to a home.
That’s when I found Lucky Dog Animal Rescue. A little internet searching led me to their Adoption Coordinator volunteer role, and the moment I read about it, I knew it was for me. Now, I get to help families find the right dog for them, and just as importantly, I get to see so many incredible dogs find the loving homes they deserve. There’s nothing better than watching a pup trot off to their new home, tails wagging and smiles on their new families' faces!
Every adoption feels like a celebration - and being part of so many happily-ever-afters is such a joy.
